Holy Eucharist (Cherhill)

Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church was built in 1938 in the center of the community on two and a half acres that were donated by Dmytro Shulhan. The first services were held in a private home by Fr. Roman Chomiak, CSSR, from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, who was visiting his family in Cherhill.

When the church was built, monthly services were held by the Basilian Fathers: Fr. Methodius Hannas and Fr. Juvenali Slota.

After the war, Eparchial clergy served the community: Fr. Michael Hawryluk (1950), Fr. Stephen Chabursky (1950-1952), Fr. Peter Iwanec (1952), Fr. Markian Bilyk (1952), Fr. John Chinchenko (1952-1960), Fr. Anthony Pawliuk (1960-1965), Fr. Bohdan Snihurowych (1965-1986), Fr. Myron Martynkiw (1987-1990), Fr. Mihajlo Planchak (1991-1992), Fr. Peter Lytwyn (1993-1996), Deacon Richard Nibogie (1997-1998), Deacon Michael Schaplowsky (1999), Fr. Peter Brezden (1999-2008), Fr. Don Bodnar (2008-2013), Fr. Slavko Dumeč (2013-2023), and Fr. Peter Babej (2023-).

OCT. 1: HOLY PROTECTION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD – Divine Liturgy (Bilingual) will be offered on Tuesday, October 1, at 5:30 pm.

OCT. 2: BIBLE STUDY (ENGLISH) – Wednesday, October 2, 6:45 PM, in the Parish Hall. We are studying the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, Chapters 2-5.

OCT. 3: BIBLE STUDY (UKRAINIAN) – Thursday, October 3, 6:30 PM, in the Parish Hall. We are studying Genesis Chapter 2, The Second Creation Story.

OCT. 10: CHILDREN’S PLAY GROUP (ENGLISH). Mothers are welcome to bring their children for an informal playgroup time on Thursday, October 10^th, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am (every 2^nd Thursday of the month).

OCT. 13: SUNDAY POT-LUCK – will take place on Sunday, October 13, (Thanksgiving Long-Weekend) after the 9:00 AM Divine Liturgy. If you are able to bring a food donation, please sign up on the list posted in the vestibule.

OCT. 11-14: FAMILY RETREAT – in Ukrainian, at Camp Oselia.

OCT. 15: 40^th DAY DIVINE LITURGY AND PANAKHYDA – for the repose of the soul of the servant of God +Peter Opryshko will take place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Dormition Parish, 7:00 PM.
